Are you curious and willing to know what your engineering college will teach you? Or are you interested in pursuing electrical engineering and want to know more about it? You have definitely come to the right place.
An Outline
The electrical engineering course deals with electricity and its fundamentals. Electrical engineering includes the concepts of electromagnetism and electronics. Industrial aspects are one of the influences of EE courses. While pursuing this course, students learn about the various electrical components’ functioning.
Students who pursue the 4-year electrical engineering degree get the practical experience and extensive skills required to create and operate electrical systems, such as circuits, generators for electrical equipment, computers, and aircraft systems. Graduates from the electrical engineering branch work in many sectors, including government agencies, factories, and engineering firms. Therefore, electrical engineering is considered one of the important branches of engineering.
If we talk about the curriculum of electrical engineering, it is quite extensive. It is designed with a motive to develop students’ skills from basic to advanced. The syllabus is highly influential with the practical application of basic and advanced concepts.
Here is the list of subjects included in the electrical engineering course –
- Embedded System
- Electrical Installation
- Electrical Machines
- Transmission and Distribution
- Elements of EE and so on.
To be eligible for the course, a candidate must have mathematics and science as a compulsory subject and score a minimum of 50% in the 10th examinations by a state government or a central council.
The fee structure of the electrical engineering course ranges from 50,000 INR to 1,50,000 INR. There are many career opportunities for a student who has a degree in EE. Students can begin their careers with these job profiles: vehicle designer, electrical engineer, technical trainer, field user, CAD manufacturer, construction inspector, and many more. Upon completing the course, you can get a higher salary of Rs.2.2 lakhs per annum as a CAD engineer. Fresher salary packages range between Rs.1.4–1.7 lakhs per year.

What is Electrical Engineering?
Electrical Engineering (EE) curriculum covers a wide variety of exercises – laboratory training, coaching, project work, and personal research. On average, graduation takes four and a half years to complete.
As mentioned above, EE is a four year course, And for better learning and assessment it is divided into eight semesters.
Division of the Semesters
First semester in electrical engineering comprises specific subjects namely mathematics, english, physics, basic engineering concepts, chemistry and engineering graphics.
Second semesters may include subjects such as materials science, mathematics, principles of environmental science, biology for engineers, engineering mechanics, basic engineering and engineering graphics.
Generally in the third semester students study fluid machine & mechanics, mathematics, electrical circuit analysis, electrical machines, electronic devices and electromagnetic theory.
The fourth semester includes subjects such as, electrical machines, computer skills, transmission and distribution systems, numerical methods, control systems, and electronic circuits.
During fifth semester, students may study the following subjects namely electronic and electrical instrumentation & measurements, engineering economics & management, digital signal processing, linear integrated circuits, design of electrical devices and digital systems.
The sixth semester may include subjects such as microprocessors, power electronics and gear change, microcontrollers and protection & analysis of the power system.
The seventh semester may include subjects such as SSD and power management, operation and management of power systems, & electives.
In the eighth semester students may study subjects such as embedded systems, digital control systems, power management & instrumentation and optical communications.
To get admission in the electrical engineering course, students need to qualify for the entrance exam. But some colleges enroll students just based on the 10th and 12th scoreboard.
There is no set process to get admission to an EE course. Each university and college have a different admission process. Every year, an entrance exam is conducted on the national and international levels.
Specialization In Electrical Engineering
There are many areas where students can pursue a specialization as per their interests. Some common areas are electrical installations (eg. lighting and heating systems), power generation & transmission, electrostatics (types of electricity bills). Others include magnetostatics, signal processing, control (security measures for electrical installations), computer software and hardware.
Role Of Electrical Engineers
Electrical engineers’ job is to design, manufacture, test, and operate electrical appliances ranging from power generators to electric motors and navigation systems to electrical components for automobiles and personal devices. Electrical engineering is a vast field, with employment roles, in a lubricating line of industries.
From the production and distribution of electricity to smartphones, electrical engineers are an essential part of many reputed companies. Due to the rapid development of technology, electrical engineering has become integrated into almost everything we do today.
